Joanne (Jodi) M. Moore, LPC, NCC, BCETS, CCH received professional training in Counseling and Psychotherapy through Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia; ultimately earning a Masters’ Degree in Counseling. After completion of a multi-year counseling and psychotherapy Residency and comprehensive examination process, she earned her license to practice Professional Counseling in the State of Virginia. In addition to her LPC credential, Ms. Moore has earned several other credentials as follows: National Certified Counselor (NCC), Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress (BCETS), Diplomate status with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCH), and certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). She has developed competence and served a a trainer fr other clinicians in these and many other disciplines and areas of practice. She is also an active member of several professional organizations.
Jodi is a counselor educator who 1) provides training and Clinical Supervision and Consultation services to other licensed clinicians seeking to increase their knowledge, skill, and clinical acumen, 2) provides Clinical Supervision to Counseling Residents who seek to become licensed and strive to develop skills necessary for competent and effective independent clinical counseling private practice once that goal is met, and 3) served served as an adjunct faculty member at Old Dominion University, teaching graduate courses related to the treatment of complicated grief, and complex trauma.
Jodi is the founder and facilitator for the Master Clinicians’ Group (MCG), a peer consultation and support organization serving licensed mental health clinicians in Virginia and North Carolina. She is the former facilitator of The Parents’ Group, a support group for bereaved parents. Jodi also served on the Eastern Virginia CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) team, providing critical incident stress debriefing to first responders (police, fire, rescue, and jail employees) and medical personnel who are exposed to potentially trauma inducing events.
Ms. Moore has particular interest and expertise in Complicated Grief, Complex Trauma Syndromes and Disorders, Military Life, Issues specific to Special Forces Operators, Navy Aviators, Combat Exposed Warriors, Wounded Warrior and Deployment related concerns, Relationship Counseling, Sexual Dysfunctions, Sexual Compulsivity (also called “sexual addiction”), Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Adjustment Disorders, Eating Disorders, Assertiveness, Identity, and Self-Concept Development, Non-Suicidal Self Injury , Career Counseling, and diagnosis and treatment of other mental health disorders and problems in living as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association.
Jodi genuinely enjoys working with people who struggle with problems in living. She genuinely cares about each of her clients and has a stake in their treatment outcomes. She is a well respected clinician among her peers and a sought-after therapist in the Hampton Roads area. She regularly receives feedback that indicates that the services she provides are effective, compassionate, useful, approachable, and serve to demystify the therapeutic process and the problems and disorders that cause suffering so clients can find and claim for themselves the hope and motivation to find resolution, reconciliation, healing, peace, capacity for joy, purpose, direction, and healing.
Jodi offers face-to-face services at her office located at 2508 Calumet Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In addition, she also offers services in selected clients’ homes or other private sites, as requested.
