Anxiety is one of the most common, frequently occurring of concerns that brings people to therapy. This family of disorders contains four distinct types- Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Social Phobia, and Specific Phobia. Each has a distinct set of symptoms. But, Common themes among them all often fearfulness, feeling on edge, or a sense of unease. This anxiety, which may be understood as the unhealthy counterpart of normal fear, can be mild and appear only occasionally, or it can be severe and all-consuming. This is often exhibited in avoidance behaviors, dysfunctional/self defeating thinking, and physical symptoms.
